The Geoprime products are based on a geopolymer solution. A geopolymer is an inorganic polymer that can be used for creating new materials, for example, to replace concrete.
Geoprime concrete consists of components from industrial side streams and Betolar’s proprietary Geoprime activator, but no climate-unfriendly cement.
The continuously developing, optimised recipe is based on Betolar's proprietary research and development.
Geopolymers have been studied for decades in various research institutes in Finland and abroad.
In recent years, research on the Geoprime solution has increasingly focused on basic research on product groups and applications, and has extensively explored the properties and behaviour of the Geoprime material and products in different applications and conditions.
Geoprime has been tested in accordance with concrete standards and is equivalent to concrete in all essential aspects. That makes Geoprime a safe and sustainable solution for versatile applications and varying conditions in infrastructure, industry and the construction applications, to name a few.

Advantages of Geoprime compared to traditional concrete made with portland cement .
The construction industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. The culprit is cement, the main raw material of traditional concrete.
The extraction of limestone required for the production of cement consumes an enormous amount of virginal natural resources. In addition, the lime is heated at a high temperature, which releases a large amount of carbon dioxide into the air as a result of chemical degradation.

Industrial production generates billions of tonnes of side streams every year which end up as waste, since they have no significant further use.
As with traditional concrete products, Geoprime products can be reused throughout their life cycle. Like portland cement concrete, Geoprime products are recyclable at the end of their life cycle. Geoprime waste can be used to make concrete aggregate, which can be used as rock material for construction purposes, for example. The environmental friendliness and technical feasibility of concrete aggregate made of waste products should always be examined at the manufacturing stage.

Geoprime can already be used for several types of concrete products in infrastructure construction, such as paving blocks, poles and construction blocks. As R&D progresses, Geoprime can also replace traditional cement-based concrete in an increasing number of construction applications.
The progress of development and testing will expand Geoprime applications into facades and frame elements, cast products, insulation and chemical stabilisation. Future applications will include masonry products and wet cast concrete, enabling the Geoprime solution to replace cement in many different applications, such as ready-mixed concrete, soil stabilisation and mining operations.
Usually a liquid substance which is used to activate the binder and harden the geopolymer mass. The concentration and quantity of the activator can be adjusted to achieve the desired characteristics in the end product. An activator can be a commercial product that is widely available on the market or a certified proprietary product.
Rock materials that belong to the scope of the standard SFS-EN 12620 Aggregates for concrete. In special applications, aggregates might also be other materials from secondary sources (such as green liquor dregs), provided that their functionality in geopolymers has been established by sufficient studies and preliminary tests.
Groups cements into five main types based on their composition: CEM I Ordinary portland cement, CEM II Hybrid portland cement, CEM III Blast furnace slag cement, CEM IV Pozzolanic cement and CEM V Composite cements.
An industrial-scale test in which geopolymer mass is produced in a factory environment with the factory’s production equipment. The mass used for manufacturing test specimens and, potentially also the desired products, which are then stored and tested in the normal conditions of the factory. The aim is to ensure that the manufacturing recipe based on the preliminary tests in the laboratory actually works in the factory environment. The experiences and results of the factory tests are then used to determine whether further laboratory testing is needed.
A material made by mixing a binder, activators, possible additives, aggregates and water, and potentially additional components or fibres to create a material with specific properties after the activators have hardened the binder.
Tests carried out in Betolar’s laboratory to verify the final properties of the Geoprime material and to develop recipes for various concrete construction applications. Laboratory testing also includes testing the aggregates provided by the client in order to produce a recipe for geopolymer products/masses that meets the characteristics and target costs agreed on with the client as closely as possible and also enables industrial tests to be carried out.
